pablo mandelbrot claims to be from bar harbor, maine on the north-eastern coast of the u.s.a. when asked about his upbringing he mentions various occupations including sardine canner and quota negotiator as well as hinting at some dark years spent working in the aqua-culture industry. about his music he says little, summing up his productions with the cryptic declaration: >disco is a deep sea<. we are not entirely sure where or when the two tracks on this 12inch were recorded and the only information from mandelbrot himself is that he has sometimes collaborated with the late conny plankton (who also engineered these two tracks), a legendary figure of the maine/nova scotia electronic music scene. pablo also insists that both tracks are >under exclusive license from lob-starr records<, although we have never heard of this label and their representatives have yet to contact us. we hope you enjoy these two slices of hypnoboogie disco, smoked, cured and de-boned for your convenience.

detroits eric johnston who has already brought archipel a remix of marc neyen and an ep on kalimari now brings us a superb four track 12 inch entitled >silly girl<. this whole package is a highly rhythmic affair which while darkly tinted remains very funky. >stop calling me< is the most percussion oriented of the pieces and instantly sucks you into its very well thought out labyrinth of sky high rhythms which are layered just so and double dipped in liquid funk while >labrador< strips things down a little more and wraps you in blankets of warm and rubbery groove. >worth it< carries on with the perfect shuffle and utilizes a wonderful blend of warmth and funk which take hold of your mind and feet with an unrelenting grip while it ebbs and flows, building a heated story as it progresses. >munted< could be three pieces in and of itself but blends them all expertly into one single solid storyline which takes you through mazes of juicy percussion and excellently placed, darkly hued, very deep chords.

after 4 years of putting out various hit releases via thema, the mother ship, its first sub-label or satellite has come to be. we are proud to announce spacial! it will consist of various remix projects, outtakes and b-sides from the parent and digital labels this new realm will function as a showcase for some of the more esoteric creations from our ever expanding roster of artists. so for our first slab of black magic, we have lad from switzerland which is remixed by none other then mr. quenum for a peak time killah remake. to keep it deep we have monotron, a new comer from holland dropping a sensual builder that lacks no luster to muster you on the floor. on the flip side we gave the whole side to a remix by the man from the hills, mr. ernesto ferrerya remixing beaner of bar25. this monster takes us on some ill trippy ride into his private lil world of bass and organs. we feel this grouping is a nice crop of tracks to start off a new adventure, its all part of the bigger concept of developing a sound�a movement�an idea. remember though, this is only the beginning!
